Q. What if I want to get there on Friday  so I can be well rested for the conference on Saturday. What else is there to do?

A. We are so glad you asked! While in the Albany area you can experience great shopping, eating, and learning.

Where can I research/learn.....
You could make a side trip to the New York State Library and Archives. Hotel courtesy vans or Uber/Lyft are the way to go if you arrive on Friday.
If you are looking for some History:

  • Visit the New York State Capital Building
  • Browse the genealogy/historical collections at the New York State Library, Museum, and Archives
  • Tour the Schuyler Mansion
  • Tour the USS Slater (only floating WWII era Destroyer Escort left in the United States). The Slater is maintained by volunteers, military veterans and their families
  • Take a cruise down the Hudson

Where can I shop.......

Whether you stay at the Desmond (as a conference attendee you will be eligible for a discounted rate) or at a nearby hotel you will find lots of shopping on nearby Wolf Road, including in Colonie Center.

  • LL Bean
  • Macy's
  • Christmas Tree Shop
  • Nordstrom Rack
  • Bed, Bath, and Beyond
  • Boscov's

Where can I eat.....

Nearby restaurants include, but are not limited to:

  • The Texas Steakhouse
  • The Longhorn Steakhouse
  • Outback Steakhouse
  • Panera Bread
  • Olive Garden
  • Real Seafood
  • Bucca di Beppo - Italian, family style servings
  • PF Changs
  • Denny's
  • International House of Pancakes

Tons of restaurants will cater to every possible taste.

Q. How do I register?

A. Go back up to the navigation bar, click on 2020 Conference and then click on the subtitle Registration. Our registration page lets you download and print our registration form and send it in the mail with a check. Send to CDGS PO Box 2175, Empire State Plaza Station, Albany, NY 12220.  OR you can register online by filling out the online form and clicking submit.   From there you must pay for your registration.  In the unfortunate event that a registrant must cancel, full refunds will be given for cancellations received on or before 5/20/2020. You can register through 5/20/20, but we cannot accommodate registrations after that date.

Q. How do I pay for the conference? How can someone else "gift" me this conference?

A. Here you have some choices.

Check: You can send a check with your mailed registration form or if you register online you can send us a check separately, with a note so we match the check with your registration).

Store Tab on the Website:   You can use a credit card or PayPal in our store. You register, then you or a loved one can pay for the conference.  You can leave a comment in the checkout section to match the payment with your registration. This conference makes a great gift for that hard to buy for genealogy enthusiast and our store makes it easy for someone to gift this conference to you.

If you have other questions please ask us. You can email cdgsconference@gmail.com and someone will get back to you.

Q. Why should I attend this conference?

A. The speakers we have for this conference are nationally known genealogists, as well as being informative, entertaining people.  It is rare to find multiple speakers of this quality at a one-day conference.  Add to that the fact that a one-day conference, on a Saturday, lets you attend without missing work, battling commuter traffic, or having to incur the added expense of a hotel room.
